Photos of Spider Rock. Spider Rock is a majestic sandstone spire that rises over 800 feet from the floor of Canyon de Chelly. The spire can be seen from the South Rim overlook and is located at the junction of Canyon de Chelly and Monument Canyon. The rock is named for the mythical Spider Woman who is believed to have taught the Navajos how to weave.
