Photos of the White House Trail. The White House Trail is the only hiking trail in Canyon de Chelly NM that can be taken without a Navajo Guide. The trail leads from an overlook on the South Rim drive to the White House Ruins. The trail is about 2.5 miles round trip and descends 600 feet into the canyon. It is not difficult, but there is no shade and you will be completely exposed to the sun.
