The Apache Trail, also known as AZ Hwy 88, runs through the Supersition Mountains and Tonto National Forest to connect the city of Apache Junction (in the greater Phoenix area) with Theodore Roosevelt Lake. The trial is approximately 40 miles long and is composed of steep, winding, and unpaved roads. The trail was first used by the Apache Indians to travel through the Superstition Mountains and later became a stagecoach trail. The trail runs through beautiful desert mountains and forests of saguaro cacti. Along the trail lies several tourist destinations such as
Goldfield, Canyon Lake, and
Tortilla Flat.
