Plague column. Kutna Hora, Czech Republic

Photo #29868
This plague column in Kutna Hora was built by Frantisek Baugut, a Jesuit sculptor. The column was built between 1713-1715 in response to a deadly plague that killed thousands. The top of the column has the statue of the Virgin Mary and the base has many reliefs of miners. There are inscriptions showing that there were 6146 victims and 1715 survivors (which include the sculptor himself).
