Baltimore Photos

Maryland, United States

Baltimore is the largest city in Maryland covering 80 square miles with a population of approximately 650,000. It is located where the Patapsco river and Fort McHenry Channel drain into Chesapeake Bay. Although the city is centered around the modern Inner Harbor district there are many historic neighborhoods and buildings such as the Basilica of the Assumption, which was the first Roman Catholic Cathedral in the US, Westminster Cemetery, which is the burial location of Edgar Allen Poe, and Mount Vernon place, which contains the George Washington monument. The city was settled in 1661 and the town founded in 1729. Baltimore was named after the British Barons who founded Maryland Colony. It began as a tobacco port but remains a major shipping port since it is farther west than most other Atlantic ports. Baltimore is also the birthplace of the Star-Spangled Banner which was written by Francis Scott Key after a victory over the British at Fort McHenry in the War of 1812.

This page contains five galleries with 66 photos of Baltimore, including pictures of the Inner Harbor Skyline.
