San Jose, California
Photos of Alviso. Alviso is small city located at the southern end of the San Francisco Bay. The city is named after Ignacio Alviso who came to the area in 1776 from Mexico. The city was built in 1838 on a land grant from the Mexican Governer Juan de Anza and served as a prosperous port facilitating north-south trade. In 1852 the city was incorporated. However, in 1864 the construction of the railroad from San Jose to San Francisco reduced the importance of Alviso as a port. In 1968 the city of Alviso became part of San Jose.
