Palo Alto Baylands Photos

Palo Alto, California

Photos of the Palo Alto Baylands. The Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve is one of the largest tracts of marshland in the San Francisco Bay area. It covers approximately two thousand acres of tidal and freshwater habitat and is home to many threatened and endangered species such as the California clapper rail and the salt marsh harvest mouse. The Baylands is particularly rich in bird wildlife and many consider it the best bird watching location on the west coast because it has a large resident population and is a major migratory stopping pont.
