Photos of Cusco. Cusco (also spelled Cuzco) is a city in the Urubamba Valley located in the Andes mountain range. Historically the city was the capital of the Incan Empire and today one can see many Incan building remains, foundations, and walls which often proved to be more resistant to earthquakes than any of the following Spanish or modern construction. Cusco has a population of approximately 300,000 and sits at an altitude of 11,000 feet.

Cusco is a popular tourist destination and there are many sites in the city that should not be missed such as the Plaza de Armas, Qoricancha, the twelve angled stone, and the central market. Cusco is also located close to Ollantaytambo, Sacsayhuaman, and Machu Picchu.
