Bryce Canyon is home to a number of ancient Bristlecone pines (Great Basin Bristlecone, pinus longaeva). These trees have adapted to the harsh conditions in the park and can survive in the most exposed areas and endure long periods of drought. Although not quite as old as the Bristlecones in California, many of the trees in Bryce Canyon are nearly 2,000 years old. The trees can be best seen by walking the Bristlecone Loop Trail (about 1 mile long) which starts at Rainbow Point at the southernmost end of the park.
