Photos of the Lincoln Memorial. The Lincoln Memorial sits at west end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. and is dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States who served from 1861 to 1865. Lincoln is best known for ending slavery through the Emancipation Proclamation and preserving the Union through the Civil War. The memorial is structured as a Greek temple in the Doric order and is made from Georgian marble. It contains a statue of Lincoln by Daniel Chester French and the walls are inscribed with the Gettysburg Address and Lincoln's second inaugural address.
