Bongeunsa Buddhist Temple Photos

Seoul, South Korea

Bongeunsa is a Buddhist Temple located in Samsung-dong, Seoul, South Korea. It was founded in 794 by the National Master Monk of the Unified Silla dynasty, Yeonhue Sunim, during the reign of King Wonseong. Most of the original buildings were destroyed by fire in 1939, during the Japanese colonial occupation, and have since been renovated and rebuilt. The temple has many figures of Buddha including a 23 meter high statue of Maitreya (Mireukdaebul), the Buddha of the future.
